Services: Sludges, Sediments and Impacted Soils

Patrick Bayou Superfund Site

Description:

  • 3-mile long bayou with impacted sediments
  • Principal Pollutants: Previous investigations confirmed the presence of the following chemicals in Patrick Bayou sediments: metals, VOCs, SVOCs, dioxins/furans, polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs), and polychlorinated biphenyls (PCBs).

Project Metrics:

  • The volume of pollutants will be determined during the RI/FS

Our Role:

  • PRP Group Coordinator
  • Assist the group in AOC/SOW negotiations for the RI/FS and selection of RI/FS contractor
  • Oversight of RI/FS contractor
  • Interface with EPA, State and Trustees
  • Group Fund Management

Lessons Learned:

  • Use of Adaptive Management Strategies has enhanced project flexibility. In this approach, work is completed and evaluated in a phased and prioritized manner so that the conceptual site models for contaminant sources and distribution, site hydrology, exposure pathways, and risk analyses are continually updated as new information becomes available.
  • Proactive communications with city, elected officers, and the community
  • Developed an innovative risk-transfer approach to evaluate risk management options
