ANIMATION
The
use of animation techniques can assist
a project team when conducting conceptual
designs, assessing construction sequences,
examining implementation logistics,
or performing community briefings. They
also are helpful for the communication
of scenes and information during litigation.
The
animation of future construction events
can be used by the project manager to
build a communication bridge between
the design team and the eventual construction
teams. This has particular value when
projects are fast-tracked in a work
products, however this mode of operation
can lead to logistics problems and designs
that are non-constructible. Animation
of the construction sequences, formulated
in consultation with the design team,
can be piloted at the 30% design stage
with construction team managers. The
animations become the vehicles by which
the design team can receive feedback
from construction team members. Since
the animations are in a digital format,
the files can be easily sent to other
locations and used in teleconferences,
long before the construction managers
actually arrive at the project site.
Animation
is also a powerful means to present
projects, which may still be at a concept
stage, to decision makers.

Case
Study:
- At
one site, oil company clients were
required to better understand the
logistics of excavating a large oily
pit, in close proximity to a residential
community. Project Navigator built
a scale model of the impoundment and
then animated the remediation project
using 1:87 model sized equipment.
- We
have also used sophisticated animation
programs, originally used in the motion
picture business, for the technically
accurate simulation of project events.
These animations have been used in
litigation support projects.
